While reflecting on the success and growth of our online learning program I realized it was not an accident. First of all we are a team and each person's ideas and input is valuable and heard. I work hard to lead by example and serve my staff while also setting boundaries for what we are able to address and change.
But I was also doing 6 things I didn't fully comprehend until reading this article from the Harvard Business Review. These six skills were developed over the last 30 years of leading and working with people.
Shape a vision that is exciting and challenging for your team (or division/unit/organization).
Translate that vision into a clear strategy about what actions to take, and what not to do.
Recruit, develop, and reward a team of great people to carry out the strategy.
Focus on measurable results.
Foster innovation and learning to sustain your team (or organization) and grow new leaders.
Lead yourself — know yourself, improve yourself, and manage the appropriate balance in your own life.
I realized after reading the article that I have been not only developing these skills in myself, but also others AND I have been learning from my failures (of which there were many).

I love learning and the adventure and exploration that comes with learning. I read tons and I am constantly seeking out new ways to learn and grow. And I have sent he momentum grow and fuel movement. i am exceedingly proud of the team of amazing people I am fortunate to work with every day.
I know they are a big part of the reason I am able to realize results.
